CADAL 60 - Prototype ready to view
NARROWBOAT DESIGNS
Cadal Craft has narrowboat designs suitable for the narrow canals of England and Wales – Hull beam of 6’10” (2.08m) and with a static and navigational draught of 2’5″ (0.73m). They are designed to be fitted with hybrid propulsion systems, but can be electric only or even conventionally fitted with a diesel engine according to owner’s preference.
Our standard design is adaptable to builds at 45, 57, 60 or 70ft cruiser stern with a wide taffrail and all have our low drag double chined hull for low environmental impact. There is space for 960L freshwater tanks and a 480L black water tank under the floorboards, leaving the forward locker free for storage.
The Cadal 57, 60 and 70 can all be fitted with our proprietary hull integrated heat exchanger enabling use of a water sourced heat pump even when the canal surface is frozen.
Our designs have been tested – in software simulation, at model scale and at full size in our prototype and in customer builds.
Narrowboat – Cadal Class 70
The Cadal 70 features our new low drag hull design with long bow and longer stern swims. Cabin length is a roomy 52ft 7in (16m) permitting a wide variety of interior layouts. The Cadal 70 is built with our custom hull integrated heat exchanger permitting the installation of a water sourced heat pump on board – for both heating and cooling the cabin. She can be equipped with up to 2.2kW of solar panels.
Narrowboat – Cadal Class 60
Our own Cadal is in use and available for viewing. The boat is 60 ft (18.30m) long and like the Cadal 70 is sized for narrow canals. Built according to our new low drag hull design, she also has a cruiser stern providing a large outside deck space at the back of the boat. Initial testing shows our Cadal 60 takes 35% less power to go down the cut than other modern hybrid powered boats – a huge energy saving.
The cabin length is 13m into which we fitted a full-size dinette and saloon, a roomy galley, two sleeping cabins and a nice toilet and shower room. She is equipped with 1.2kW of solar (max solar panel space is 1.7kW). Our Cadal 60 features the same hull integrated heat exchanger as the Cadal 70.
Narrowboat – Cadal Class 57
The Cadal 57 is a development of the Cadal 60 featuring the same length cabin, but with a reduced back deck area to allow the shorter boat (57 ft, 17.3m) to have the same facilities as its sister boat. She has the same roof space so can accommodate up to 1.7kW of solar. The Cadal Class 57 features the same low drag hull as her sisters. She is the shortest boat available with our hull integrated heat exchanger.
Narrowboat – Cadal Class 45
The Cadal 45 features the same long bow and stern swims as her longer sisters, but is a much shorter boat permitting a lower cost of completion. She is 45ft long (13.72m) and can have a maximum of 1.1kW of solar. Unfortunately, it is not possible to fit our hull integrated heat exchanger on board but in all other respects she keeps the same low drag hull features.
River Boat – Cadal 20 (m)
The Cadal 20 is a river boat, not designed for canals although with a maximum beam of which will permit navigation on most broad canals and rivers in the UK and Europe. Her hull is based on the same principles as we developed for the Cadal Class narrowboats, except with a distinctive bow and deck arrangement. She is 20m (66ft) with a 3.63m beam (12ft) and her hull supports our hull integrated heat exchanger for a water source heat pump for heating and cooling the cabin.
